Description

A complete set of three 1961 Robert Bashlow restrikes of the 1861 Confederate (CSA) Cent originally struck by Philadelphia die sinker Robert Lovett Jr.. One of each in silver, goldine and copper, all in uncirculated condition. All are struck on thick planchets 18 mm in diameter. The copper and goldine weigh approximately 6.7 grams while the silver is 7.82 grams.

The story of Robert Bashlow is one worth looking into. Although he was a professional numismatist, he gained fame with these particular restrikes. He also came into possession of many other used dies and made less famous restrikes gaining noteriety in the process, particularly with the US Secret Service. He had influence with many highly regarded figures in the numimatic area and the rumor has it, faked his own death in a fire.
