Changes in design
This issue went through some transitions in its lifetime. From the 1792 half disme, to flowing hair 1794-1795, draped bust 1796-1805, capped bust 1829-1837 and liberty seated 1837-1873. The Liberty Seated went through design changes from variety 1 which was a very sparse obverse with no stars. Variety 2 added stars around the edge. Variety 3 placed arrows on either side of the date 1853-1855 then back to variety 2. And finally variety 4 from 1860 to 1873 dropped the arrows and placed the legend United States of America around the obverse rim in place of stars.
