Description

A World War II Collectible

The $10 Hawaii Overprint Currency Note Series OF 1934 A is part of an emergency currency issued by the United States Treasury Department in the territory of Hawaii starting on June 25, 1942, and continuing until the lifting of currency restrictions on October 21, 1944.

This was done to protect the economy. If Japan happened to overtake the islands, this currency would be immediately be rendered worthless. These were conceived as usable only in the Hawaiian Islands. But servicemen collected them avidly and they spread. Some were made into ‘snorters’ or ‘short snorters’. All were printed in San Francisco.

This $10 example is in very good condition with one old vertical center fold.
