Weight – 1/200th Troy Ounce .9999 Gold
Design
The obverse side of the 2021 Gold Aurum Ireland Kingdom of Breifne Note features a bird from a larger flock in the immediate foreground as it flies above a field of clover. At the top of the design element is a map of some of the territories of Gaelic Ireland in the Middle Ages, including a rough map of the borders for the Kingdom of Breifne. The bottom of the design field includes a Gaelic-themed stripe. The iQuint denomination of 5 is noted twice on this side in numeric form, with Five Gold iQuint beneath the bird. There are also inscriptions of 1/200 th oz Fine Gold and Breifne Ireland’s Ancient Middle Kingdom on this face.
On the reverse field of 2021 1/200 oz Gold Kingdom of Breifne Notes, the design from the obverse effortlessly flows over. The same flock of birds flies through the background as a rainbow emerges from the right side of the design element. This rainbow ends, fittingly, in a pot of gold that rests among the clovers.
Here’s more on Kingdom of Breifne
The Kingdom of Breifne was a medieval kingdom that existed from the 11th to the 17th centuries in what is now County Cavan, Ireland. The kingdom was ruled by the O’Rourkes, a powerful Irish clan. Its capital was Cenél:nagara (now known as Cavan). At its peak, the kingdom stretched from County Leitrim in the north to County Westmeath in the south, covering an area of approximately 1,000 square miles. Despite its significance in Irish history, the kingdom has largely been forgotten, and its legacy continues to be overlooked by many historians to this day.
And the real Story
Most of the 3200 manufactured were melted leaving an estimated 400.
A quote from goldback.com “The Brefine note was a complex, one-time project for Ireland that failed. NAMX produced the gold notes as part of a crypto-currency project for Quintric. Each note represented 1/40th of an ounce of gold but only 20% of the total gold content, or 1/200th of an ounce was actually in the bill. The rest was on a crypto ledger. Only about 400 of these survive today as the rest were melted down.”
