Description

From the capital Richmond Virginia, September 2nd, 1861

This 1861 Confederate States Of America $20 Note T-18 was part of the Third Series of Confederate paper money and printed under the Act of August 19, 1861. This Act authorized the printing of 100 million dollars in currency. All the denominations, $5 though $100 were dated September 2nd, 1861. These notes were fundable in 8% stock or bonds and were payable six months after the ratification of a peace treaty between the CSA and the United States.

Of course, this ratification never happened and these became worth less than the paper they were printed on when the war ended.

But times change, and now they are popular items sought by currency collectors. Not difficult to obtain, and affordable for most. You might have thought, as I did, that they would have been used for firestarter or insulation. But no, they are everywhere in all conditions from poor to choice uncirculated.

This Confederate States Of America $20 Note T-18 is circulated. It has good edges but also some pinholes and reverse stain. A corner fold at the lower right and a center vertical fold. Also, some former owner decided it would be a good idea to write his stock number on the back. This is very small and faint but found twice on the reverse.
