Transitions

The Seated Liberty quarter went through five transitions during its usage. From changes in Liberty’s drapery, arrows on either side of the date to no arrows and back again. One year, 1853, the reverse had rays surrounding the eagle. Then back to no rays etc. etc. It was minted from 1838 to 1891, with two small weight changes.

Grading

Another huge disappointment in a long line of them playing the grading game. Uncirculated details cleaned. I find it difficult to accept this designation. I admit a few marks on the surface, but enough to call it cleaned is pushing it. Hairline scratches on the surface in large amounts are typically telltale of a cleaning and a dipped coin is lusterless. Cleaned coins will also usually show dirt or darkness around the edges of  raised details and in low spots. This coin is gorgeous and does not deserve this treatment.
