Description

1857 Millville Bank NJ $3 Proof Sample Note, PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ.
The bank was organized in 1857 and remained in business until 1865 when it became the Millville National Bank. The $3 design features a farm wife with her children during a harvest lunch break, flanked by a young boy’s portrait as later used on T32 CSA $5 Treasury Notes at left and the New Jersey coat of arms at right. The design is completed by an overall green tint with a large green and white THREE protector that stretches across the face of the note. The note is printed on India paper with four POCs (points of cancellation or hole punches) in the signature lines. Certified Gem New 66PPQ.

The Millville Bank building still stands, constructed 1857, and was listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places in November 1976 and on the National Register of Historic Places in November 1980.
